Teacher Training

20hr Neurodiversity & Invisible Illness in Yoga & Movement
11-18 June 2025

The training begins with discussing the concept of Neurodiversity, the key terms and language that surrounds the neuro-affirming paradigm. From this foundation, we will cover, in detail:

 

The Why ~ Understanding Neurodivergent conditions and their strengths and challenges
 

  • ADHD in adults, late diagnosis, and the difference between male and female presentations

  • Autism, the history of this condition, the ways that it can impact and shape the lives of those who see and experience the world differently

  • AuDHD: the crossover between ADHD and Autism and the co-occurring nature of these presentations

  • Dyslexia, Dyscalculia and Dyspraxia (Developmental Coordination Disorder) and how these ways of understanding and interpreting words, language, numbers and the coordination of the body might be different for these neurotypes

  • C-PTSD, a form of acquired neurodiversity, and how complex trauma can shape the way our brain and nervous system interacts with the world around us

  • Common co-occuring conditions of

    • PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder),

    • Invisible Illnesses commonly experienced by neurodivergent individuals.

      • Hypermobility/EDS,

      • Dysautonomia and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome/ Orthostatic Intolerance (POTS/OI),

      • Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS)

  • The Neurodivergent Nervous System

 

 

The How ~ Neuro-affirming, Trauma- Aware & Invisible Illness informed Practice
 

  • Common sensory, social, and environmental challenges and helpful accommodations we can consider

  • Cueing, language, and sequencing to suit neurodivergent brains

  • Movement guidance and class pacing for co-occurring invisible illnesses

  • Physical touch, consent, and power dynamics between facilitator and participant

  • Neurodivergent or Neurotypical Yoga Teachers, Pilates Instructors, and other movement professionals

  • Yoga Teacher trainees

  • Yoga students

  • Neurodivergent folks wanting to learn more about their type of brain

  • Anyone caring for, or in relationship with, a neurodivergent person

  • Parents of neurodivergent children

  • Teachers of any kind

  • Health professionals who work with or want to learn more about working with these types of brains

 

What you’ll receive:

  • A hard copy and digital copy of the comprehensive training manual with added resources and supplementary learning materials to assist you on your journey.

  • Access to neuro-affirming practice mentorship with Caz after the training concludes.

  • Research backed; current evidence based theoretical understanding of the neurodivergent conditions we cover.

  • 3 x pre-recorded yoga classes: 1) Neuro-affirming and Trauma Informed Vinyasa Yoga, 2) Yoga for POTS 3) Yoga for Hypermobility Clients.

  • A considered and kindly paced face to face three days spent with other like-minded folks.

  • Daily movement / yoga practices on the in-person days & neurodivergent designed movement breaks and rest options.

  • Recordings of the 2 x online zoom sessions at the start and conclusion of the training

  • All the cups of Love Tea you can manage.

  • The most serene and light hearted physical learning environment at Salt & Wood, a yoga studio set in a Zen garden with the waves as your soundscape, walking distance from the beach and Ocean Grove shops.

  • A community of neurodivergent peers.

  • Jennifer Smallridge, Exercise Physiologist & Clinical Educator, Clinical Pilates, Therapuetic Yoga, Co-Founder of Connection Medicine (Invisible Illnesses)

  • Phoebe Hope-Malone, Co-Founder of Salt & Wood, Yoga for Amputees, Prosthetist and Orthotist (Touch, and mindful physical assistance)

Session 1 Wednesday 11th June
6pm – 7:30pm via Zoom

12:30pm – 5:30pm, Salt & Wood Studio

Session 3 Saturday 14th June

10:30am – 4:30pm, Salt & Wood Studio

Session 4 Sunday 15th June
10:30am – 4:30pm, Salt & Wood Studio

Course Fee:

$770 - for those with stable access to financial resources

$730 p/p – for folks with access to fluctuating financial resources

$657 - 10% off Tier two for Frontline Workers (2 places available)

$650 - Salt & Wood Staff

 

Payment:

For those who’d like to split their course fee into 2 x payments, please use the link in Momence and pay your final payment 7 days before the training commences.  If you cancel at that point, your first payment will not be refunded.

 

Full payment of the course is due by 10th June.

If you are unable to make this payment date and have not discussed an alternate arrangement with us, we will assume your withdrawal from the course and offer your place to another.

 

Cancellations:

If you cancel your enrolment 90 days or more before the course begins, you will receive a full refund.

For cancellations made 60 or more days prior to the start date, you will be eligible for a 75% refund.

If you cancel 30 or more days before the course starts, you will receive a 50% refund.

No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within 30 days of the course start date.
